Nancy's been mentoring fine artist Alastair Barford over the past year. She curated his first exhibition at Bridport Arts Centre, last May and has just finished hosting his latest work as part of the Still exhibition, where his work was shown alongside works by established portrait painter, Jeremy Andrews.
In between, Alastair achieved:
A 1st from University of Falmouth, a very well respected institution that chose to buy a large-scale work for their collection.
A travel bursary to Florence.
Contributing to two exhibitions at the Millennium Gallery.
The Midas Award which incorporates a solo exhibition at the beautiful Newlyn Gallery this autumn.
Regular sales, with works now in private collections in London, Los Angeles and Bridport.
Place at the Prince's Drawing School and subsequent travel bursary to study in Madrid.
Selection by the Queen Elizabeth Scholarship Trust 2012. Alastair will use this funding to study the craft of portraiture for a year in Florence.
We all know it takes incredible determination and talent to achieve so much within a year, and we know there have been just as many knock-backs as successes, but to do so much in these difficult times, with serious competition and tricky circumstances takes true grit. Big respect Alastair!
