A very warm welcome to George Gotts, our new Director. George is a playwright.

In addition, after a few weeks of discussion and research, I'm very pleased to confirm a second very warm welcome to the Bridport based Bucky Don'ts ukelele group.

Jane Mowatt and Sally Vaughan have done a tremendous job of building up the uke group over the past year. I've seen how inclusive and community focused their work is and I'm really pleased that they will be developing their work under the Burr umbrella.

Either Sally or Jane will be joining us as a Director of Burr Projects C.I.C.

Hutliving Here & There: The Heritage Lottery Fund will be informing Burr of their decision by the end of this month, and the Leisure Development Fund will respond in January

I will be in Suffolk until the New Year as part of Fran Crowe's residency programme.

It's been rainy and sunny. A mixed bag.

I'm working on two projects with young people, with a focus on shepherds huts, and I'm developing my own work for my We Can ReBuild Her exhibition at the David West Gallery, Lyme Regis.

Jennie and I made this comic and it made us very happy to do so.

It has sixteen black and white pages full of good stuff and is only available as a swap item. Some of you will have received one in return for visiting our Walker Evans exhibition last summer.

We'll be swapping some more outside Bridport Arts Centre Saturday 5 February 2011, and taking photographs of peeps with our giant letters.

So January 2011 and we're still bringing together great people, ideas, exhibitions and venues but now we're doing it with the blessing of the Registrar of Companies.

Oh yes.

And we have a certificate and company number to prove we're serious about ploughing our profits back into art projects that benefit our neighbourhood community and anyone in the arts community, from beginners to experts, with an interest in developing creativity, aspirations and ambitions.

Apart from drowning in forms over the festive period we've been organising a few things for 10am - 2pm Saturday 5 February 2011. We'll be outside the Bridport Arts Centre doing our thing.

That may be too vague, lets go for details...

The Spirit of Bridport steering group is managing a day of launch events to profile Bridport to itself, the region and anyone who discovers it via the Olympic activity around Weymouth and Portland so Burr Projects C.I.C, along with other local organisations, will be joining in.

On this occasion we are pleased to be working with two of our very finest street photographers...

Photographers Pete Millson and Jennie Hill will be documenting people posing on the streets of Bridport with some very fine letters made by our friends at TLC. Our theme is 'spirit'. What does it look, smell, feel, taste and sound like to you?

It will also be your very first opportunity to buy a t-shirt to support us if you want to, or to exchange something in return for our labour of love publication. The more imaginative your item of exchange, the better! We may have other surprises for you too, the only way to find out is to rock up on the day I'd say.

Rock up ?? RAF or rugby I think. Yes, I do both. And I have the cauliflower ears and waxed moustache to prove it.

Hello again,

Burr Projects is now working on a film, an event for the launch of something Bridport special in February, an exhibition of works to be auctioned in spring 2011 and the shepherds hut project.

More information about Burr's partners and the launch event will be available in the near future but at the moment I'd love to know if you're over sixteen and interested in learning new skills and helping to renovate the beautiful shepherds hut or under eighteen, from Bridport or surrounds, and interested in taking part in the film project.

Car Park

This week's been all about the car park. Mike generously organised and painted up the white, wooden dividers and as the heatwave was messing with my dedication to office based items, I decided to put the car park layout, design into action.

The layout had taken account of any emergency combine harvester access needs via the gate in the photograph but apparently that might not be necessary so I'll rearrange the funny little spaces properly tomorrow.

This is not my car but I thought you might like to see what a vintage jaguar leaving the scene of a parking space crime looks like. A rare sighting and only one breakdown on each legg of its journey!

ps. Helen's done a lovely job on the posters and invitations so they'll start appearing around and about in the next few days.

Our working environment

So it's just over a month until we open our Burry doors for the first time, and this is how it's looking in the neighbourhood. By the time our first visitors arrive the corn will be as high as an elephant's eye. Possibly. I don't really know about these things.

I've seen the proofs for the Walker Evans exhibition posters and invitations and our lovely map is nearly ready to upload so we're very nearly ready for you to tread carefully along the tracks and footpaths and lanes up to Axen for a bit of art and whatnot.

My ambition for Burr Projects at Axen Farm is that our visitors will enjoy journeying to the gallery venue and viewing the works in a domestic space in a rural environment in England. Quite site specific really.

It's my very modest homage to Kettle's Yard in Cambridge, a place that's much loved by its visitors who visit from all over the world and return with their friends and families to share the thinky inspiring space.

I've spent a lot of time there over the years and had the privilege of working on the wonderful ReCollection project before I moved to Dorset. If you're over that side of the country see what you think.

Bunting

I love living in a place that breaks out the bunting at the drop of a hat. White for weddings, red, white and blue for football matches and traditional charity shop triangles lovingly stitched into miles of glorious soft colour for any occasion, including Burr Projects at Axen Farm 7 August - 5 September 2010.

Thanks to the nimble fingers of Jennie and her aunt, Axen will be welcoming you in true Dorset style.

Creative spaces

I spent yesterday in the really inspiring, Woodroffe School with some incredibly

committed, ambitious and creative staff.

Although I have a couple of degrees now I was

what's now known as a 'school refuser' and managed to avoid attending between the ages of 14 and 16 and wondered the galleries of the National Portrait Gallery and Tate Britain instead.So I've been a very keen supporter of the Arts Award since I did my Arts Award Adviser training a few years ago. It is the equivalent of Duke of Edinburgh Award for 11 - 25 year olds who are interested in the arts. Take a look and pass it on to any wondering young people you know.
I've seen pride popping and bursting out of teenagers with ASBOs, arts graduates and young carers when awarded with Bronze or Gold certificates and from next month Gold will carry UCAS points.

Thanks to the brilliant and patient staff at the Hayward and my lovely landlords, Burr Projects is now in the very exciting position of organising an exhibition of Walker Evans work here in a gamekeeper's house surrounded by some of Dorset's most lovely fields and lanes for the month of August.

There's a lot to do but with the help of my brilliant assistant Jerry we're making great progress...

Steven and Amy are coming to help install the works in return for a tiny Dorset holiday.

Polly Tootal's coming to check out Axen with an eye to making some new work inspired by Walker Evans' work.

The Woodroffe School has been really supportive and I'm off to talk to students and staff again soon.

Olly has kindly put aside bottles of Five Penny Farm apple juice for us to sell to thirsty gallery visitors.

Mike is helping to organise car parking bays.

Bronwen Coe's lovely tree books will be for sale.

2010 - 2012 Burr Projects will develop three arts projects in and around Bridport, Dorset, UK:

Hutliving will bring together people of all ages and backgrounds to explore the heritage, fun and inspiration of shepherds huts.

Exhibitionist will bring an exhibition of quality and interest to an unusual local location for your critical eye.

Carnie will facilitate a youth led contribution to the regional celebration of outdoor festivals.
